Nafath, Saudi Arabia's national digital identity platform, can verify a signer at two levels in ilzam: standard and high. Both tie the signature to a national identity. The high level adds a biometric check. Here is what each means and when to use which.
The two levels
- Standard is the default. The signer receives a request in the Nafath app and confirms it, as described in how a signer proves who they are with Nafath.
- High (biometric) adds a biometric check: the Nafath app asks the signer for it before they can continue.
The sender chooses the level for each signer. You can use the high level for one party and the standard level for another in the same document.
How to set the level
When you add or edit a signer who verifies with Nafath, a Nafath level choice appears under the national ID number: Standard or High (biometric). The signer then shows as "Nafath (High)" on the document, so you can see at a glance which signers have the higher check.
The level is saved with the person, so you can set it once for a contact and reuse it. A template can carry it too, and a document made from the template starts from it.
When to choose the high level
- Standard suits everyday contracts where you must be able to show who signed.
- High suits agreements of high value or sensitivity, where you want one more check that the person signing is the person you named.
Whichever you choose, how a document is treated depends on the document and on the party that receives it: read about the law.
Good to know: the high level is part of plans that include it. It is priced as its own check, shown in the cost preview before you send, and counted against the high-level checks your plan includes rather than against coins. If your plan does not include it, the choice is not offered.
Questions people ask
What is the difference between the standard and the high Nafath level?
With the standard level the signer confirms in the Nafath app as usual. With the high level the Nafath app also asks the signer for a biometric check.
Which level is the default?
Standard. The sender chooses the high level for a signer when it is needed.
Does the high level cost more?
It is priced as its own check, and the price appears in the cost preview before you send. It is counted against the high-level checks your plan includes, not against coins.
Is the high level on every plan?
No. It is part of plans that include it. ilzam shows the choice only where your plan has it, and says so when the plan has no high-level checks left.
Does the signer do anything differently?
The signer still opens the link and confirms in the Nafath app. At the high level, the app asks for the extra biometric check.
